Davao and The Eye of an Eagle

The High and Mighty Mt. Apo

Davao is Duterte and Duterte is Davao. This is the first thing in mind when someone mentions Davao. Well, this place isn’t all about that fierce President of the Philippines. Davao also stands out in terms of tourist attractions.

Davao City in particular is hail as the largest and safest city in the Philippines. Located in Davao del Sur, Mindanao. It is the home of Durian, Sweet Pomelo, houses the majestic Mt. Apo (the highest mountain peak in the Philippines) and the home of the endangered Philippine Eagle.

How To Get Here

There are lots of local airlines that flees to this Mindanao city. Cebu Pacific AirPhilippine Airlines and Air Asia has regular flights everyday.

Getting Around

Davao City is highly urbanized. Upon arrival at Francisco Bangoy International Airport, you may proceed outside the terminal gate and get a cab. Don’t worry about the scamming psycho taxi drivers, they’re not welcome in Davao city airport.

Jeepney routes are also intensive. The main road is SASA, Jp Laurel St.

To help you with your itinerary, you may download an app named Davao City Jeepney Guide. Or just use google map or Waze it! πŸ˜‚

Where To Stay

Davao has lots of accommodation, whether inns or 5 star hotels. We chose to stay in 3 different hotels in Davao City during our 5-day stay, just for fun. One night however was spent in Samal Island.

1. Davao Waterfront Insular HotelLanang, Davao City 8000< ul>

Who would not want to stay in a waterfront hotel? This hotel chain is quite famous as they have a lot in other parts of the Philippines.

Verdict:< b>Location – 😊😊😊😊
A few mins from the airport, it is easily accessible from the main road. To go to other places within Davao, one may take the SASA-JP laurel jeepney. This route passes SM mall, Ayala mall etc.

Cleanliness – 😊😊😊

Needs improvement. Davao’s waterfront is kinda’ old, needs a few refurbishing.

Ambiance – 😊😊😊😊

Aside from the surrounding garden, the pool and the view of the ocean is what you’re paying for, otherwise this place needs a bit of modernization.

Over-All – 😊😊😊

Location is good. Outside ambiance is cool but the room is just fine. The furnitures are old and some walls are delapidating. The hallway is dim which makes you think that the place is haunted. A little creepy especially when you’re roaming at night. I love the breakfast buffet tho’, intensive food choices.

2. Pinnacle Hotel and Suites

Verdict:

Location – 😊😊😊😊

Centrally located along Sta. Ana Ave. near Gaisano Mall. Jeepneys are located just outside the hotel premises.

Cleanliness – 😊😊😊

Not spotless but tolerable

Ambiance – 😊

The room that we got is a standard room. It has 2 double beds and a fridge aswell. My only problem is that the room has gloomy lightings. We even heard some disturbing sounds in the middle of the night! 😱 Someone is switching the lights repeatedly! Quite scary really… πŸ˜‚

Over-All – 😊😊😊

Good for a night. Breakfast buffet is nice tho’ not as wide as the waterfront but can get you through the entire day. But if you’re gonna ask me if i’ll stay here again? Well, probably “could” be my last option simply because of our creepy experience! πŸ˜‚

Verdict:Location – 😊😊😊😊

Located at the opposite side of Waterfront Davao. It’s a 2 minutes walk from the main road and a 5 minutes jeepney ride to SM mall.

Cleanliness – 😊😊😊😊😊

Very clean! Couldn’t ask for more.

Ambiance – 😊😊😊😊

I love it here, nice ambiance! The room has big windows overlooking the garden. The room they gave us is big and the bathroom is huge aswell. The pool is clean. They will even give you fresh towels.

Over-All – 😊😊😊😊😊

Would love to stay here again incase i’ll be heading to Davao in the future. Has a modern and fresh feels. Waking up with the sun light peeping through your window is one of the best mornings for me. Tho’ their breakfast selection is bleh but its tolerable.

4. Hof Gorei Beach Resort

Located “literally” beside Pearl Farm. So its a good option if you’re out of budget but wanted to have a bit of relaxation. Tho’ coming here from Davao City requires a boat trasfer. But no worries for they’re also offering that for free! Simply coordinate with them for the schedule.

Cleanliness – 😊😊😊😊

We got the Attic Room for a 50 pesos addition at Agoda. And the room is quite pretty and nice. The whole room is of traditional Filipino Nipa Hut style finish.

Ambiance πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

To be honest, we’re a bit scared and paranoid at first, due to the recent abu sayaff kidnappings in Samal. So we are very careful and vigilant all the time. The place is peaceful, not so many guests during our visit, i think mainly because of the news, that’s why a lot of tourists choose to stay away from Samal. If added with more security, i think this place would be a great alternative to high class resorts. The place reminds me of Bali! Cozy and private!

Over-All – 😊😊😊😊😊

I highly recommend this place, peaceful and really beautiful. The view at the attic room in the morning is superb! The silhouette of Mt. Apo is really magical! Tho’ the beach is not that pretty but the service, set-up and the food made up for it. I would definitely consider coming here again in the future!
