Guimaras: The best Mangoes in the World

20150629_132525

Guimaras is a small island located 15 mins. off Iloilo City. It is formerly known as Himal-us, and was a sub-province of Iloilo until it was made an independent province in 1992. This province is famous because of their insanely sweet Mangoes.

This is not part of our itinerary but since its proximity to Iloilo, we made a point to dropped-by for a day tour.

ITINERARY:

7:00 AM – We took our Free Breakfast at the Hotel

8:00 AM – Walk to Ortiz Wharf – GT Hotel is closely located near Ortiz Wharf, about 15 to 20 mins.

8:30 AM – Pumpboat to Jordan Wharf, Guimaras – P13

  • Their are several boats docked in the wharf, so there’s no need for a reservation

8:50 AM – ETA

9:00 AM – We head first to the Tourism Office to get a license Guide and for a short Orientation. This is free BTW.

Land TourP1000 (tricycle)

a. Smallest Plaza – Literally the tiniest Plaza you will ever see. We just took a photo with Dr. Jose Rizal and leave.

b. Guisi Lighthouse – Our 2nd Stop – A bit far from the main hub. About 30 to 45 mins away. Entrance – P20

c. Alubihod Beach – The beach side of Guimaras. One cant go wrong with its fine and golden brown to white sand. Entrance to Raymen Beach Resort – P50

d. Trappist Monastery – Buy Pasalubong Mango Bars, Dried Mangoes etc..

12:00 PM – Lunch at Pitstop – Their bestseller, the Mango Pizza! – P252

e. Mango buying – We were actually planning to buy mangoes in the Market since we believe that we can get more discount, unfortunately our guide is not helpful at all and just drop us to the stalls near the main highway.

f. Mango Plantation

g. Holy Family – This last spot is a bit controversial, our ever so stubborn guide is pushing us to go to Balaan-Bukid instead. His reason? The place is out of the way and a bit far from Jordan Wharf! But we told him that we wanted to see this place and we’re not in a hurry. Come’on we’re paying you for the whole afternoon dude!

Balaan-Bukid btw, is a shrine of a holy cross, where you’ll need to trek for 20 minutes to reach the top. From there, you will have a glimpse of the entire Iloilo City.

4:00 PM – Pumpboat to Ortiz Wharf – P13

  • This is probably one of the scariest rides of my life. That last 10 minutes are so intense because the waves are too strong! But thank God we’re safe and got to enjoy the World’s Sweetest Mangoes!
